SUMMARY
Quarterback Rank: #56
Overall: #292

Volek didn't play a snap last season. And his chances of starting any time soon seem slim. He is a solid backup, though. Volek hasn't started a game in three seasons with the Chargers, serving as Philip Rivers backup. Volek has played well when given the chance, throwing 26 touchdown passes compared to 14 interceptions. Volek has a plus arm with pretty good accuracy and the brains to succeed.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
He is an intriguing fantasy talent, but the chances of him seeing much playing time seem slim.

Casey Pearce, of Chargers.com, reports San Diego Chargers QB Billy Volek (hamstring) tweaked his hamstring during practice Monday, May 19, and was unable to take part in practice Tuesday, May 20.
The San Diego Chargers announced they have signed free agent QB Billy Volek (Chargers) to a new three-year contract through the 2010 season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fantasy Impact: Interesting. We thought Volek might try to find a starting gig, but he'll remain the backup to Philip Rivers, who is recovering from knee surgery.
Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers are interested in keeping impending unrestricted free-agent QB Billy Volek, but he will likely want to test the free agent market.
Fantasy Impact: Volek wants to start, but could have a hard time finding a team to take a chance on him.
San Diego Chargers QB Billy Volek practiced Friday, Dec. 14, and split the workload with QB Philip Rivers (knee). Volek is the team's No. 2 quarterback and would play if Rivers suffers a setback.
Mike Sullivan, of the North County Times, reports San Diego Chargers QB Billy Volek will start the team's final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 30.
Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports former Tennessee Titans QB Billy Volek, traded to the San Diego Chargers Tuesday, Sept. 19, still does not know why the Titans never gave him an opportunity to be the team's starting quarterback. "The funny thing is, to this day, I still don't know why I am not starting (for the Titans)," Volek said. "The only thing that I can think of is I was kind of a scapegoat for the offense, not putting up 40-50 points in the preseasonàIf you want to point the finger at me, point the finger at me. I am fine with that. But let me know why I am not playing, and that never happened here. No one told me. Yes, I leave with some bitterness. But I am trying to think of the good times."
Updating a previous item, the San Diego Chargers announced Tuesday, Sept. 19, that they have acquired QB Billy Volek (Titans) from the Tennessee Titans for a 2007 sixth-round draft pick. The draft choice could become a fifth-round choice if Volek participates in 50 percent of the team's total offensive plays this season.
ESPN reports the San Diego Chargers have acquired QB Billy Volek (Titans) in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.
Fantasy Impact: Volek would have been better off going to the Raiders or Chiefs where he would have had a chance to start. He'll be the backup with the Chargers.
